Book Signing with Photographer & Author Harold Sherrick

Join us on Black Friday for a book signing with photographer and author Harold Sherrick.

Los Angeles in the 1960s was the era of political upheaval, free love, psychedelic drugs, and  rock and roll. During those early years spent in record shops and the late ‘60s, authors Ralph Sutherland and Harold Sherrick met the enigma known only as Pigman. When the first modern era bootleg album Great White Wonder surfaced in Los Angeles in 1969, Ralph and Harold were surprised and pleased to learn that Pigman was the one who had brought it to the world. As the music business was turned upside down by the bootleg record phenomenon, Ralph and Harold, as confidants and consultants to Pigman, watched in awe the audacity of Pigman and his underground record label, Trade Mark of Quality. In 1976, Pigman disappeared into self-imposed exile as the copyright laws of the United States caught up with him.

“A Pig’s Tale” is not just the story of bootleg records and Trade Mark of Quality, but of Pigman and his triumphs and struggles as he weaved his way through the insane maze of the record biz. For this book, Ralph and Harold reconnected with Pigman to gain exclusive insider access to Pigman’s recollections and—for the first time—to the unseen rare TMQ archives, which until now had been safely hidden away from the world in Pigman’s secret lair. Presented here for the first time is a complete discography, never-before-seen photographs of the albums and pressing equipment, and the complete album art collection by acclaimed artist William Stout.

Sherrick will also have copies of “Stolen Moments,” a book of photography featuring
musicians and other notables including: Neil Young, Mick Jagger, Sting, Bono, Sheryl Crow, Quincy Jones, David Bowie, Tori Amos, June Carter Cash, John Entwistle, Joe Walsh, Ringo Starr, Ray Charles, John Fogerty, Tom Petty, Chrissie Hynde, Pete Townsend, Stevie Wonder, and others, available for purchase.

With forewords from Morley Bartno and Clem Burke, “Stolen Moments” documents nearly 30 years of music history.

About Harold Sherrick

Sherrick has been documenting the Los Angeles popular music scene with his still photography since 1980, and his reputation for excellence has steadily grown. His camera lens has captured the entire range of musical artists from Joni Mitchell to Joss Stone, the Bee Gees to the Ramones, Ringo Starr to Tom Petty, Iggy Pop to Ray Charles. His pictures have been used in such books as John Einarson’s biography of Byrds founding member Gene Clark, Mick Brown’s biography of Phil Spector, and Alternative Rock by Dave Thompson.

Sherrick’s photos have also appeared in numerous music publications in the United States and Europe, including Goldmine, Relix, Night Moves, Guitar World, Mojo, and Billboard. He has shot album and CD covers for artists including Eric Burdon and Arthur Lee, and has been employed as photographer for record producer Phil Spector.

“The Greatest Rock And Roll Band You Never Heard Of” Book Tour with Marcus Mason & Hit The Ground Runnin’

Meet Marcus Mason, Toronto-based author of the non-fiction biography book about the seemingly unknown tale of Delco-based rock band, Hit the Ground Runnin’, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

“The Greatest Rock And Roll Band You Never Heard Of” tells the one-of-a-kind story of the band who, in Dick Clark’s words, would be “The next big thing.”

From performing regularly on “Dance Party USA,” to losing a major management deal to a flip of a coin to Warrant, to writing songs for “Rocky V” and “Backdraft,” and being turned down by every major record company, embraking on a national tour of Canada, and becaming stuck between elite management and a payola scandal, there is quite the story to tell.

Fitting of the book title “The Greatest Rock And Roll Band You Never Heard Of”, Hit the Ground Runnin’ has played alongside some of the greatest acts in the hard rock genre including the likes of Britny Fox, Cinderella, Tangier, Blue Oyster Cult, Aldo Nova, and Blue Murder, and yet no one has ever heard of them!

With their original CD selling for over $1,900 a copy, the band has earned quite the cult status within the Hard Rock scene and has ever since been waiting for their first national debut out of the underground world where they have remained for so many years.

Come out to hear their story and meet members from the original band; Paul Piccari, Jimmy Katone, and Alan Augunas!

In addition to copies of the book, CDs and a special vinyl copy of their first 45 will be available for purchase.
