What’s better than a music festival?  A tie-dye music festival!

If you’re looking for some family fun this Saturday, look no further than the Tie-Dye Music Festival at Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford, PA. The Tie-Dye Music Festival is an all ages, free admission, family event sponsored by Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union.

A celebration of the care-free days of summer and the creative and colorful process of tie-dying, attendees may purchase event t-shirts for $10 and tie-dye them themselves for no additional charge or people may bring up to 2 items of their own to tie-dye for a $5 charge.  CAC staff and expert tie-dye artist Bob Deane will be on hand to help participants with the tie-dye process and with achieving the desired design and color of their finished products.

Throughout the day, six local bands, each with their own unique sound, will entertain festival-goers.   Music includes the bluegrass sounds of  the Whirled Peas, improvisational folk rock from Beaufort, well crafted original music by New Jersey singer-songwriter Gordon Vincent, your favorite classic rock by Friday Revival, carefully selected acoustic covers by Herb Mondros and original music from Wilmington’s JB Cole, who is quickly gaining popularity as an emerging talent.

The Tie-Dye Music Festival, July 13th from 2 – 7 p.m., is a rain or shine event.  Guests are encouraged to bring chairs/blankets if outside. If inside, chairs will be provided. Additional  parking provided by  Pendle Hill, next door to the CAC, at 338 Plush Mill Rd.

Pack a picnic, grab your hula hoop and have some festival fun!

Frank-ly Lovin’ Folk/Punk

I love discovering new music and WXPN is a great place to do that.  As a member, I try to get to a Free at Noon concert at the World Café Live at least once a month.  Last Friday I checked out a great act, Frank Turner and his band The Sleeping Souls.  Turner’s described by Wikipedia as an English folk/punk singer-songwriter, and as strange as that may sound, his sound is strangely fantastic.

I love any kind of music with an edge and Tuner and his band definitely delivered with some hard rock riffs that you just had to move to but he also had a couple softer, more folky songs with lyrics that evoked feelings and that listeners could relate. I especially liked his songs “Losing Days” and “The Way I Tend to Be.” I’m including a link to a live performance of “Losing Days” here so you can check him out too.

Despite having just released his fifth studio album, Tape Deck Heart in April,  I shamefully had never heard of Frank Turner until last week. He is now an artist I will keep on my radar.
